Hi, I'm Tessa
I believe the best photos come from people who feel comfortable, not perfect. I'll guide you throughout your session with simple direction that feels natural, so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Growing up in cattle country
I grew up and still live in Wandoan, Southern Queensland, right in the heart of prime cattle country.
My love for photography started young, wandering around with one of those little digital cameras in hand. Out here, there was always something worth capturing, cattle, horses, dogs and the endless light of the bush.
Towards the end of high school, my incredible mum, who also shared a love for photography, would lend me her camera. I'd head down to the yards or paddocks, snapping away until the sun dipped below the horizon. Some things haven't changed...
The winding road back
I fell in love with photography again after leaving my feedlot job. The hours were never much of a worry, getting up early, sometimes 12-13 hour days, and I loved the work. But I felt like I didn't have any real freedom. Something was missing. I decided it was time to be my own boss.
I started my own contract mustering business, and it was during those early stages when I was trying to keep my social media content up to date, that I realised how much I wanted a camera in my hand again. Not a phone. There's something so magical about a photo taken through the camera lens. It can tell stories, relive memories and capture emotion.
I never did get around to taking the camera to work, but it's led me to where I am now: buying my own camera, getting back behind the lens and building a business out of what was once a hobby. Maybe one day I'll get around to taking the camera mustering with me.
I’m deep in what you could call my photographer era and I’ve never felt more at home
Photography isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am. It’s how I see the world. It’s how I connect, with people, with place, with meaning.
I went up north, did the ringer-from-the-top-end thing and absolutely loved it. There's nothing quite like Northern Australia. But something shifted when I picked up a camera again.
Right now, I'm soaking up every story I get to tell. The quiet moments in between the action. The cheeky side glances. The tears no one expected. The way a mother holds her child, or the way a person lights up when they feel truly seen.
I don't want perfect. I want real. Windblown hair, dust on boots, bare feet on red earth. I want connection. Tessa Hansen Photos is for the people who want to be seen in true light, who want to remember every little detail and moment.
If it means something to you, it means everything to me.
